'16 champ Djokovic stunned by Thiem in French Open quarters”

Rafael Nadal advanced to the French Open semifinals for the 10th time when Pablo Carreno Busta retired from their match because of injury. I have obviously played him in last year's semis here, played a really good match, played an incredible match against him in Rome.

Thiem is a talented, up-and-coming player, to be sure, and he is the only man to beat Nadal in the Spaniard's 23 matches on clay in 2017.

Both these players are the second favourites to win the title at Roland Garros this year, after Rafael Nadal, and it will be interesting to see how this battle pans out. "Probably I didn't play as well as I did the other day, but I still played well".

"I have to change something compared to the last matches", Thiem, the youngest of the quarter-finalists, said.

Fourth seed Nadal recorded his 100th best-of-five-sets victory on clay - from just 102 matches.

"It's incredible for me", said Thiem. The tournament is mostly regarded by many as "French open" or "Roland Garros", these names are used by the tournament to represent all language. He joins Roger Federer at the top of the chart for most Roland Garros quarterfinal showings in the Open Era (since April 1968).American Williams, the 2002 champion, was beaten 5-7 6-2 6-1 by Swiss 30th seed Timea Bacsinszky.

Second seed Djokovic's progress has been troublesome in comparison, being stretched to five sets by Diego Schwartzman in round three - but the battle-hardened Serb is well-versed in the business end of slams and usually raises his game.

Nadal won 6-2, 2-0 after Carreno Busta withdrew with abdominal pain, in 51 minutes, reports Efe.

Wednesday's order of play will now see Nadal and Djokovic added into a busy mix of tennis, with Stan Wawrinka taking on Marin Cilic and Britain's Andy Murray going head to head with Kei Nishikori.

Carreno Busta, who is ranked No. 21, should give Nadal the toughest test of the tournament.

Fourth round: No. 2 Karolina Pliskova beat Veronica Cepede Royg 2-6, 6-3, 6-4; No. 3 Simona Halep beat No. 21 Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1, 6-1; No. 5 Elina Svitolina beat Petra Martic 4-6, 6-3, 7-5; No. 28 Caroline Garcia beat Alize Cornet 6-2, 6-4. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Caroline Wozniacki, and Kristina Mladenovic are the biggest seeds on the day.
