Chuck Schumer invites Donald Trump to testify about Comey and Russian Federation

President Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka, says her father felt "vindicated" and "incredibly optimistic" following fired FBI Director James Comey's congressional testimony last week. Speaking with Jeanine Pirro, Trump Jr. said "everything that went on in the Comey testimony was basically ridiculous" right before he appeared to confirm one of the more important parts of Comey's story.

A USA president is given a wide array of immunities from criminal prosecutions.

Under oath on Thursday, Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee that he consciously decided to make the memo detailing Trump's request unclassified. If he didn't, he appears to have been threatening a former Federal Bureau of Investigation director against talking about their private conversations.

With a single tweet, Trump also castigated Comey for giving an account of his conversation with the president to a lawyer who shared it with a news outlet. "I will tell you about it over a very short period of time". While the agency said they did not posses either, that does not preclude the possibility that other individuals or agencies recorded White House conversations secretly.

Pundits and legal experts were divided on whether Trump's actions rose to the level of obstruction of justice, a potentially impeachable offense.

But while Republicans in general have continued to back the president, some have begun openly questioning and criticizing his actions.

In this February 11, 2014, file photo, then-Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn testifies on Capitol Hill in Washington. A source familiar with the matter said Richman has been in touch with Senate judiciary through special counsel Bob Mueller's office, and that there will be movement after the weekend.

"I didn't say that", Trump insisted Friday.

And he did say that he believed the president wanted him to drop an investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who resigned after misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with Russian officials. "When you have the FBI director telling you three times you're not the subject of an investigation and you ask him, "would you please announce that publicly" and he refuses, I can understand why the president would be frustrated by that".

Harvard Law School professor Mark Tushnet said onlookers should keep in mind that Comey knows much more than he can say, calling his testimony a "big deal".
