Columnist Kirsten Powers: 'How was Sen. Harris hysterical?'

Columnist Kirsten Powers: 'How was Sen. Harris hysterical?'”

Kamala Harris has served as freshman senator for only six months, but she's not wasting time sitting in the shadows.

After a nauseating round of soft-ball questions and a failure to hold Attorney General Jeff Sessions accountable, many breathed a sigh of relief to see Senator Kamala Harris preparing to launch her own set of questions at the man under oath. During Sessions' hearing, she was interrupted by senators John McCain and Richard Burr; they claimed she wasn't letting Sessions finish his testimony.

The exchange was an nearly exact repeat of last week, when McCain cut in on her intense questioning of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and committee Chairman Richard Burr told her to stop and let Rosenstein answer.

POWERS: But how was that his hysterical?

"How was Sen. Harris hysterical?" I don't really understand that.

Her dogged attempts at Tuesday's hearing into Russian-Trump connections to get Sessions to share what he knew and when he knew it once again turned a congressional session into a less than decorous brouhaha.

"It didn't seem like there was any effort to try to get to a real question or to the bottom of things", Miller responded.

"I think she was hysterical", Miller said of Harris. "She was very dogged". Would you say that?

Sessions: I don't recall it, but I have to tell you I can not testify to what was said as we were standing at the Republican convention before the podium where I spoke. I don't think that Sen.

Harris tweeted herself that she was simply trying to discern why Sessions was refusing to answer certain questions during his testimony. Wyden (D-Oregon) also had a contentious moment with Sessions during his line of questioning.

"But he wasn't hysterical, she was", Powers said.

Many Twitter users weighed in on what was the second time Burr and McCain interrupted Harris, the first time came during a hearing on Wednesday, June 7, when she questioned Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. "This is the second hearing in a row". "I don't think Sen".

The term "hysterical" - as well as words such as "crazy" and "emotional" - has always been used to discredit women's voices and give people (typically men) an excuse to disregard their concerns or opinions. Women were believed to be exhibiting hysteria if they were anxious, faint, or even sexually "deviant". Lord chimed in, saying, "Hysteria is a neutral quality".
