Dancing host Kevin Spacey steals the show at Tony Awards

Dancing host Kevin Spacey steals the show at Tony Awards”

We understand there's quite a few clips above - but, did you notice Groundhog Day has been made into a musical?

Rachel Bay Jones accepts the award for best performance by an actress in a featured role in a musical for "Dear Evan Hansen" at the 71st annual Tony Awards on Sunday, June 11, 2017, in NY.

Christopher Ashley won for best director of a musical on a night that was mostly dominated by "Dear Evan Hansen".

The homegrown production, which started Off-Broadway, tells the story of Evan Hansen, a high-school senior with social anxiety whose life is turned upside down after a classmate commits suicide.

The homegrown play, "Oslo", written by United States playwright J.T. Rogers was inspired by the back-channel talks, unlikely friendships and quiet heroics that led to the agreement more than two decades ago.

Cynthia Nixon won Best Featured Actress In A Play for her work in a revival of The Little Foxes.

"Midler beat out Patti LuPone ("War Paint"), Christine Ebersole ("War Paint"), Denée Benton ("Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812") and Eva Noblezada (Miss Saigon").

At first I thought the problem with the opening number was that Neal Patrick Harris wasn't doing it-in case you've forgotten how good he is, scroll down-or that I didn't know this year's musicals very well. Jitney, by August Wilson, won best revival of a play.

"No one could just walk in - even though she's a star and everyone knows who she is". This year the Tony voters spread the wealth around, calling "Hello Dolly" the best musical revival, and honoring its star Bette Midler. Midler's rambling acceptance speech, in which she literally ordered the orchestra not to play her off, was a show highlight. The show was a frontrunner, only in contention with "Come From Away", a Canadian musical about a small town in Newfoundland that welcomed passengers stranded there on September 11th, which ended up being a quiet presence for the evening.

One of its performers, Michael Aronov, won Best Featured Actor In A Play for his role as a cocky Israeli negotiator.

At last night's Tony Awards, Broadway passed the torch to a younger generation of stars. And best director of a musical went to Christopher Ashley of "Come From Away", the crowd-pleasing show about the people of Gander, Newfoundland, who sheltered thousands of stranded airline passengers on September 11.
