Special counsel Mueller investigating Trump for possible obstruction of justice

The special counsel appointed to investigate possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation is now looking into whether President Trump sought to obstruct justice, The Washington Post reported.

The three officials are Daniel Coats, director of United States national intelligence, Admiral Mike Rogers, chief of the National Security Agency, and Rogers's recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett.

Mr Trump told a television reporter that one of the reasons he had fired the 56-year-old, was because of the ongoing probe into possible collusion with Russian Federation, something the President said was nothing more than "fake news" being generated by those angry about his election victory. However, days after Comey was sacked, the FBI began a new investigation into Trump for possible obstruction of justice, according to the Post.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Trump's private attorney, Marc Kasowitz, immediately condemned the Post report.

Associates of Comey revealed an unclassified memo in which the former FBI director describes a conversation with Trump, with the president asking him to end an FBI investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Comey had previously assured Trump he was not under investigation.

The Washington Post is reporting that President Donald Trump is under investigation for obstruction of justice. "We are not in a position to comment further".

Comey testified last week before the Senate Intelligence Committee, where he gave a detailed account of his conversations with the president, whom he said asked him for his "loyalty" and insinuated that his job as Federal Bureau of Investigation chief might depend on providing such a pledge. A spokesman declined to comment when asked by the Post.

After Comey's testimony, Trump said he had been vindicated because his former FBI director confirmed telling Trump on three occasions that he was not under investigation.

"I'm going to acknowledge we had a meeting with the special counsel Mueller, but I'm not going to get into the contents", Mark Warner, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, told reporters later.

The report also indicates that NSA Director Adm. Mike Rogers and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats will sit for interviews with Mueller in the near future.

The president denies that he asked Comey to drop the Flynn probe, part of his version of the events involving the former director that he said last week he'd be "100 percent" willing to recount under oath. It's possible those actions too will be considered by the special counsel.
