Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner to meet with Senate intelligence committee this month

Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner to meet with Senate intelligence committee this month”

Both the Senate and House Intelligences committees are investigating Russia's attempt to manipulate the outcome of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election as well as allegations of collusion between members of the Trump campaign and high-ranking Russian officials.

Late May, officials told NBC that FBI investigators believe that Kushner has significant information relevant to their inquiry.

Jared Kushner is set to meet with staffers of the Senate Intel Committee this month.

Kushner met at least once in December with the Russian ambassador to the US, Sergey Kislyak, and he also met a year ago with a Russian banker, Sergey Gorkov.

According to Comey, Trump asked him to let go of the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who had been fired after it was revealed he lied to Vice President Mike Pence about conversations with Kislyak.

The interview with President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, which is expected to take place in a closed setting, would mark a new phase in the investigation now turning to personal testimony.

Back-channel diplomacy refers to unofficial but direct, high-level communications that bypass formal channels, according to "Safire's Political Dictionary", and has been used when Washington lacks formal ties with another government that it wants to speak with.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said in March that Kushner volunteered to come forward and answer questions. "Then to use those to the benefit of Russian Federation against the United States".

Kushner's attorney last month said that his client would cooperate on any probes of his past meetings with Russians and Trump said he has "total confidence" in Kushner following the reports.
