Trump Is Being Investigated For Obstruction of Justice, Says Washington Post”

On Wednesday evening, the Washington Post published a bombshell report saying Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating President Donald Trump for obstruction of justice. Former FBI Director James Comey told Congress last week he believes he was sacked by Trump to undermine the agency's Russian Federation probe. A number of senior intelligence officials have agreed to be interviewed by investigators, the Post said.

"The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal", a spokesman for Trump's legal team, Mark Corallo, said.

A Trump loyalist and early backer of the billionaire businessman's presidential bid, the 70-year-old Sessions has recused himself from all ongoing Russian Federation investigations.

Sessions insisted he stepped aside from the Russian Federation investigation because he was a principal adviser to the Trump campaign, not because he did something wrong or was a subject of the probe.

Officials said one of the exchanges of potential interest to Mueller took place on March 22, less than a week after Coats was confirmed by the Senate to serve as the nation's top intelligence official.

Testifying last week before the same committee, Comey recalled that Trump had asked him to "let go" of a probe into onetime national security advisor Michael Flynn- exposing the president to accusations of obstruction of justice, a potentially impeachable offense.

Addressing allegations that he had unreported meetings with Russian officials while he advised the Trump campaign, Sessions said he had already acknowledged two encounters a year ago with Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Sessions did not accuse Comey of either false statement or lies.

When two participants in a conversation offer different accounts - as Trump and Comey apparently do of their April 14 meeting - "the most obvious thing the government looks for is corroboration", said a white-collar defense lawyer.

The meeting comes a day after lawmakers questioned Justice Department officials about the probe and Mueller's independence, and after a friend of President Donald Trump said the White House was considering firing Mueller. The investigation is examining possible contacts with Russian operatives as well as any suspicious financial activity related to those individuals.

Mueller had cleared Comey to testify last week.

Mueller has not publicly discussed his work, and a spokesman for the special counsel declined to comment.

Investigators will also look for any statements the president may have made publicly and privately to people outside the government about his reasons for firing Comey and his concerns about the Russian Federation probe and other related investigations, people familiar with the matter said. Feinstein had asked for the committee to complete its own investigation in addition to ones now ongoing. "I knew Jim Comey could handle himself well", Sessions said. "I was sacked, in some way, to change - or the endeavor was to change the way the Russian Federation investigation was being conducted".

In Sessions' testimony Tuesday, the AG did dispute some of the particulars of Comey's story about his interactions with President Trump. In a tweet, he said he felt vindicated by the fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director's testimony, despite Comey's "false statements and lies".

After Comey's testimony in which he acknowledged telling Trump that he was not under investigation, Trump tweeted that he felt "total and complete vindication".

President Trump said in a press conference last week that he did not ask Comey to drop the Flynn probe.
