Classes resume at Evergreen State College”

Evergreen State College resumed a normal schedule on Tuesday morning after several tumultuous days involving violent threats and vandalism that forced the public college to shut down.

The college had been closed for the third consecutive weekday Monday. The school announced it would be closed to students once more last night, however, citing law enforcement officials reviewing new information regarding the threat. The protesters have centered much of their fury on Bret Weinstein, a biology professor who criticized an organized event "inviting" every white student, professor, and administrator to leave campus for a day.

Last Thursday, 50 faculty urged a "disciplinary investigation", of Weinstein for making students "targets of white supremacist backlash".

This year, the program included an optional anti-bias training for white students off campus and an optional educational program for students of color on campus.

The University of California, Berkeley, was criticized for canceling an appearance by conservative commentator Ann Coulter in April and another by right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos in February. The school stayed closed on Friday as law enforcement continued its investigation.

According to the Olympian, while police have determined there is likely no continuing threat to safety on campus, campus police will be joined by Washington State Patrol detachments for as long as administrators and law enforcement deem necessary.

"There is a difference between exercising the right to freely voice an opinion and inciting violence - and that difference has nothing to do with volume or forcefulness".
