Everton sign Nathangelo Markelo and add to title-winning U23 squad”

Everton have strengthened their Premier League 2-winning squad by signing Holland Under-18 global Nathangelo Markelo from Dutch second division side FC Volendam on a three-year contract.

Everton have announced the signing of teenage defender Nathangelo Markelo on a three-year deal from FC Volendam.

The young defender had been extensively scouted by Everton and other leading European clubs, but according to reports from Liverpool Echo, the Blues have secured the deal for the Holland U-18 worldwide.

Everton had been tracking Nathan Markelo for some time and have now reached an agreement with Dutch second-tier side Volendam.

"It feels great to be an Everton player", Markelo said.

"I heard something about two weeks ago after a tournament I played in and I was very happy". I decided immediately that I wanted to come to Everton.

Markelo has become the second Dutch player to have arrived at the club, with the Toffees having already signed Davy Klaassen from Ajax.

Markelo, who is able to operate in both central defence and as a right-back, has not yet broken through into the Volendam first team, playing instead for the club's Under-19s.
