Florentino Perez to continue as Real Madrid President

Ronaldo was a world-record signing of intent from United after Perez returned as president eight years ago, the forward being part of a £225million summer spending spree that also saw the likes of Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso move to Real.

The 32-year-old's future at Real Madrid now looks uncertain with reports suggesting on Friday that he wants to leave Spain after the authorities accused him of tax evasion.

The reigning victor of the Ballon d'Or and Best FIFA Men's Player award has been "outraged" by what he feels is unfair treatment by Spanish tax authorities, making him determined to quit the club and the country.

Ronaldo has been linked with a return to Old Trafford as he is unhappy in the Spanish capital. But we're a great side too, and I'm sure we can stop him. I hope so. It would be very bad business to sell him.

"It doesn't matter what your name is or the league you play in: we're all in this together and we're all fighting for the same objective". The move would see the Portugal global link up with his former boss Carlo Ancelotti, who coached him at Madrid between 2013 and 2015.

Calderon also admitted that Ronaldo holds his former club in very high regard, but is still dubious whether the player genuinely want out. "The point now is whether he really has chose to leave", added Calderon.

"One year before he was going to come [in 2008], he told me that he was really grateful to Manchester United, the fans, the people there, his teammates - everything in the city".

Perez, who began his second spell in 2009 and has overseen three Champions League wins in the last four years, has barely had to contend with any rivals for his post since the Liga club changed internal rules for presidential candidates in 2012.

"As no other candidature was put forward to the board and by virtue of article 40, paragraph E, item 2 of the current articles of association within the club, is it proclaimed that Mr Florentino Perez Rodriguez is president of Real Madrid".
