Sadhvi Saraswati is just a tourist unaware of Goanness: Min”

The BJP's coalition partners in Goa have raised objection to centre's new cattle trade law. "State government will object to certain aspects and suggest certain corrections to the notification on Prevention of Cruelty Towards Animal Act", said Goa Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai. The Chief Minister had also turned a blind eye on the burning issue of beef ban and the recent inflammatory statements of Sadhvi Saraswati, which were totally against the spirit and essence of the Constitution, the Congress leader said.

The government will review all the cases cleared by the investment promotion board "because there are apprehensions that red-category (hazardous) industries were cleared in the name of (generating) employment", Sardesai said.

Sardesai said he had spoken to Parrikar and asked him to write about the objections to the notification. "But since there are inter-state ramifications, there is an effect is on Goa", he said.

On Thursday, the Centre gave indications that the government will tweak the rules to demarcate an area in livestock markets for the sale and purchase of animals for slaughter. "The backbone of this government is communal harmony and we will protect it", he added.

Sardesai said people in general are not bothered about such remarks made by the likes of Sadhvi Saraswati.

CM Parrikar while addressing the gathering on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day on Sunday had said that the CMP copies shall be made available by Sunday afternoon to the media but failed to do so.

He also expressed happiness over the reduction of the garbage hillock at Sonsoddo and said government is planning to have another sewage management plant in Goa. "We don't have a yard where animal is sold".

Freedom fighter Vaman Prabhugaonkar said the fight which was initiated by Dr Lohia went on for 15 years and the state got its liberation on December 19, 1961.

The cattle for slaughter is brought to Goa mostly from neighboring Karnataka.

"Since the government is going to write to the Center on our stand with regard to the rule, I assure every section of the Goan society that they need not worry", he added.

"The notification talks of milk and draft animal". Several states have massively criticised the notification, including Kerala, West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh, among others.
