Virat Kohli proud of India's performance in Champions Trophy despite losing final

They were eventually dismissed for 158, with 19.3 overs to spare.

Pakistan, who had lost all three of their previous matches against India in the knockout stages of International Cricket Council tournaments and started this event the lowest ranked of the eight teams involved, were now on the brink of a sensational win.

Praising Pakistan for their brilliant all-round performance in the Champions Trophy final here on Sunday, Indian skipper Virat Kohli said the green brigade can upset any team on their day. "Amir bowled brilliantly but all my bowlers bowled really well".

"It's a great, great team effort from where we came from because we knew after losing the first game, we were nowhere", said the former captain.

Pakistan enhanced their long-held reputation as one of the most unpredictable teams in world sport with an extraordinary and overwhelming victory over bitter local rivals India in the Champions Trophy final on Sunday. After Fakhar caused Azhar to be run out on 59, he took out his frustration on India, notably spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

The Telegraph also played the hockey win big, though it was also acknowledged Pakistan's win.

Fakhar hit 12 fours and three sixes before skying a catch off Hardik Pandya but Pakistan had the flawless platform to make the highest total in a Champions Trophy final.

Only 5.4 per cent of the runs he conceded were boundaries, and 60 per cent of his deliveries were dot balls - a statistic only bettered by South Africa duo Kagiso Rabada and Morne Morkel.

Pandya is followed by Yuvraj Singh and Shikhar Dhawan, who racked up 22 and 21 runs respectively before being dismissed.

Shadab picked up his second wicket when Kedar Jadhav, on nine, gave Sarfraz a simple catch and India appeared to be crumbling meekly at 72 for six.

He raised hopes of pulling off a one-man Indian Houdini act as he hit three successive sixes to reach his half century.

Jasprit Bumrah struck a first blow for India in the 4th over when he had southpaw opener Fakhar Zaman caught behind but the batsman was recalled after replays showed that Bumrah had overstepped the line.

Denied the calming influence of an early wicket, India's bowlers looked nervous.

"It was about the team doing well and we have done well to be in the final", Kohli said. They're struggling at the 9 position with meagre 77 rating points, and that makes it all the more hard for them to qualify for the ICC World Cup 2019. "We have no hesitation or shame to admit we didn't play our best game today".

13 Wickets for Hasan Ali, which makes him the joint leading wicket-taker in any Champions Trophy tournament.
