Airbus gets 100-plane deal at Paris Air Show”

The F-35's air show debut comes as Lockheed Martin is reportedly nearing a $37 billion deal that would send 440 F-35 Lightning II multirole fighters to 11 nations, including the USA, according to Reuters.

Brigadier General Select Todd Canterbury, director of the US Air Force F-35 Integration Office at the Pentagon, told AP the display was to "showcase the capability to all of our European partners and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies".

Boeing wants to punch back at Airbus, which is outselling the USA plane maker roughly five to one in sales for the biggest single-aisle jets.

Lockheed Martin's (LMT) F-35 is set to make its first aerial demonstration on Monday at the Paris Air Show, as the defense contractor looks to ink a blockbuster sale for hundreds of the stealth fighter jets.

U.S. President Donald Trump has called North Atlantic Treaty Organisation obsolete and excoriated European allies last month for not spending enough on their own defenses.

But it has also seen problems, with five occasions since 2 May when pilots reported oxygen deprivation. A team of engineers, test pilots, medics and others experts are "digging into this problem 24 hours a day", to try to identify the cause, Canterbury said.

Single-aisle planes for short and medium distances are the hottest ticket in the world's civil aviation industry, with airline demand for models in the Airbus A320 family giving the European company an edge, for now, over its American opponent which is racing to return in force to the mid-range segment. However, Airbus immediately hit back with an order for 100 of its popular A320neo planes from leasing company GECAS, as well as a deal for 12 A321neos with Air Lease Corporation.

Airbus also announced that it's studying a more fuel-efficient version of the superjumbo A380, which has struggled to win a big customer base. As these planes can carry more passengers, they have attracted interest from low-priced airlines as well as carriers looking to exploit their range that allows them to make flights across the Atlantic.

The U.S. planemaker said it had more than 240 orders and commitments from at least 10 customers for the new 737, which can carry up to 230 people in a single-class configuration.

CDB Aviation signs memorandum of understanding for 42 MAX 8; 8 787-9 and 10 737 MAX 10 jets, worth in total about $7.4 billion at list prices.

"We think the 737 MAX 10 is a competitor to the (MAX) 9 and that's why a lot of people are converting", he said.

The budget carrier had in 2014 placed an order for 55 737 MAX jets with Boeing. Macron landed Monday at the Bo.

Macron, trying to raise his worldwide profile, appears to have chosen the A400-M to give a boost of confidence to the long-troubled European military transporter project.

The industry is eager to show off its wares after a string of public relations embarrassments recently - from the United Airlines' passenger getting dragged off a flight to British Airways' massive outage.
