Anti-Muslim Hate Marches Across US Draw Violence, Arrests

The demonstrations were held in more than two dozen USA cities, including Seattle, New York, Chicago and San Bernardino, California.

A counter-demonstration, called "Seattle Stands With Our Muslim Neighbors", will start at 9 a.m. Demonstrators plan to meet at Occidental Square, then walk to the anti-Sharia group.

Aldasouqi and the others washed the Capitol steps and surrounding area with water and mops and sponges as a symbolic gesture, they said, to wash away hate from the morning rally on Lansing's south side. Authorities say three people were arrested for obstructing law enforcement. In St. Paul, Minn., state troopers arrested about a half-dozen people when scuffles broke out at the close of a competing demonstration.

The right-wing advocacy group ACT for America planned the march at Mount Trashmore in concert with several dozen similar events held around the country on Saturday, according to reports.

Two people out of the seven also face potential assault charges.

People take part in rally in support of Muslims rights to counter an anti-sharia law rally organized by ACT for America on June 10, 2017 at City Hall in NY.

The so-called "March Against Sharia" protests were advertised as some kind of advocacy stand when they really were just a public platform to promote a prejudiced view of Islam.

The marches were organized in 19 states, including Minnesota.

About 100 people gathered in south Lansing Saturday morning, some to march against Sharia and others to oppose the march. The rally was organized by ACT for America, which claims Islamic law is incompatible with Western democracy.

The SPLC, a civil rights organization based in Montgomery, Alabama, has long designated ACT for America a hate group and ACT's founder - Brigitte Gabriel, a Lebanese immigrant - a member of the nation's "Anti-Muslim Inner Circle".

A New York March Against Sharia supporter stated the march had "nothing to do with religion or nothing like that", though they also added "If [Muslims] don't like it they can go back to their countries and deal with it there", according to the New York Post. Although they tried to shout him down at times from disparaging Islam and Shariah law, he welcomed the rift of opinions.

Rallies were scheduled for 28 cities in 21 states across the country. No injuries have been reported. Under Sharia Law, women must be submissive to men, sexual intercourse with pre-pubescent females and rape is sometimes permissible and the punishment for blasphemy is death.

In front of the Trump building in downtown Chicago, about 30 people demonstrated against Islamic law and in favor of President Trump, shouting slogans and holding signs calling for bans on Sharia. Many people called for better treatment of women.
