ICC Champions Trophy: Rashid Latif's Message For Virender Sehwag After Pakistan Won

ICC Champions Trophy: Rashid Latif's Message For Virender Sehwag After Pakistan Won”

India captain Virat Kohli today defended his decision to bowl on a flat track and said a lucky reprieve for centurion Fakhar Zaman proved to be a costly one in the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan here today.

Zaman was batting on four when he edged one to MS Dhoni before the umpires checked that bowler Jasprit Bumhrah had overstepped. Junaid was the consistent wicket-taker who helped Pakistan find their feet mid-tournament. The duo forged 128-run partnership in 23 overs before a running mix-up cost Pakistan a wicket.

Costly with the ball: Bumrah.

Arthur admitted Pakistan were desperate to prove they could go toe to toe with tournament favourites India with the title up for grabs. Ashwin lost his sting thereafter as he went wicketless for 70 runs in his 10 overs besides bowling four wides. "We tried to do out best, but even with the ball, they were aggressive, we didn't show any resistance apart from Hardik, who's knock was outstanding", he said.

Raw power up top: Azhar Ali.

In fact, he got only a single wicket in three matches that he played, giving away 167 runs from 29 overs. Azhar Ali's quick run scoring surprised the Indians in the final as he changed gears when Fakhar was being targeted. His cameo ended after he made 76 runs in just 43 balls, which included 4 fours and 6 sixes.

Fakhar Zaman was declared Man of the Match who remained highest scorer for Pakistan with 114 runs.

"We can't take anyone lightly but they were more intense and passionate on the day". It also hurt the Indian bowling further and they had to be content playing second fiddle throughout the innings.

For the past 4 years, Pakistan tried pacers who weren't good enough for global circuit; Mohammad Irfan didn't know how to use his height as an advantage, Wahab Riaz was the left-armer with Mohammad Sami's brain and Rahat Ali who was clueless to any plan because he had no idea where the next ball would pitch.

However, at the Oval, the situation was ideal for the 189-match veteran to come into his element with the Pakistani batsmen on top. The top 3 of Indian batting line up was finished by the fiery Mohammed Aamir.

Hafeez's innings provided the ideal finish as they broke the Indians' back by posting a formidable total.

Former captain appreciated 18-year-old Shahdaab's confidence level, adding that his insistence on taking review for Leg Before Wicket (LBW) was the result of his confidence.

The Indian innings was off to a disastrous start with Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir producing a fiery opening spell.

Mohammad Amir then reduced India to 33 for three by dismissing their much-vaunted top three, with Rohit Sharma out for a duck and opposing skipper Virat Kohli, the world's top-ranked ODI batsman, falling for just five.

With 16 overs remaining and two set batsmen back to pavilion, Azam and Shoaib Malik (12) played sensibly and punished the bad balls.

Amir, however, did not allow the miss to affect him as he ran in objective and unleashed another fantastic ball that Kohli tried to flick but ended up edging to point.
