Moving towards making India self-reliant in defence: PM Modi

Moving towards making India self-reliant in defence: PM Modi”

With India still importing 65 per cent of its military requirements, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today strongly favoured making the country self-reliant in the defence sector.

He said that world will watch this transformation with awe as how political parties with different ideologies have supported government in implementation of GST. If getting the house allotment letters was a dream come true for themtem, for Modi, too, it was like fulfilling of his dream - to see every poor having a house of his own.Sharing Ramrati's happiness, the PM said, "When dreams come true, people despite the situation they are living in, are ready to do anything".

On the occasion, he said India can do wonders in the field of technology and put the country on top. "Our expense to reach Mars was Rs 7 per kilometer". Modi said the scientists are "Modern Rishi" of today. They are devoted to the objective of ridding the humanity of pain.

Referring to former President Kalam, Modi noted that science is universal but technology is local, and there can not be a bigger name for contributing to technology than him.

The prime minister's strong message towards making the country self-reliant in the defence sector came against the backdrop of the government finalising a policy under which private sector companies will be roped-in to manufacture hi- tech equipment like submarines and fighter jets in India in partnership with foreign entities. "We have to defeat diseases with science", he said. "Everyone is watching the developments in UP".

"The entire country is was keenly following what was happening in Uttar Pradesh and I am happy to note that under Yogi and his team, the state is headed for development like never before", Modi said at an event at the Dr A.P.J. He also visited the Central Drug Research Institute.

Past year in January, when Prime Minister Modi visited the Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University here, he too was greeted with protests as soon as he began speaking at the event. "Earlier, power was distributed on VIP basis".

Earlier on Tuesday, police detained 22 persons in Lucknow, hours before the arrival of PM Modi, over apprehensions that there may be an attempt to block his convoy or create some other kind of disturbance.

Those detained included some youth leaders belonging to the Samajwadi Party (SP). He also planted a sapling of a medicinal plant in the CDRI premises, flanked by Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
