Single ticket wins $447M Powerball jackpot

A person who has yet to be identified will likely be pocketing the tenth-largest lottery prize in USA history, after lottery officials confirmed a winning Powerball ticket worth $448 million was sold in California Saturday night.

The owner of a Southern California liquor store says he doesn't know who bought the winning $447.8 million Powerball ticket.

Lottery officials said the earliest the $447.8 million ticket could be redeemed is 8am tomorrow.

The grand prize in the multi-state U.S. lottery soared to its highest in months after 19 straight drawings failed to produce a victor.

The winning numbers are 20-26-32-38-58 with a Powerball number of 3.

Saturday's jackpot is the 10th largest lottery prize in USA history.

The lump sum payout for the winning ticket would be US$279.1 million. Those figures are just the amounts withheld up front; your final tax burden is likely to be even higher.

The 10th largest Powerball drawing was held Saturday night.

No one has won the jackpot since April 1, thus the reason for its large size.

Powerball is played in 44 states, plus Washington, DC; Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

No other winners in New Jersey have been announced, but the lottery said in a statement that 2,750,331 players won prizes totaling $21.1 million.

The year began terribly for the family because Alberre's father was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis.

Alberre said the store does not yet have any plans for what they will do with the $1 million bonus.

Menifee has about 89,000 residents.
