USA coroner investigating death of student freed from N Korea

North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) shows the trial of United States student Otto Frederick Warmbier, who was arrested for committing hostile acts against North Korea, at the Supreme Court in Pyongyang. "It's worth a forceful response".

He said in an interview on "CBS This Morning" broadcast Tuesday that while it's not clear exactly what happened, there can be speculation that North Korea made "unjust and cruel treatments" to Warmbier.

Tensions between the United States and North Korea have been heightened by dozens of North Korean missile launches and two nuclear bomb tests since past year in defiance of U.N. Security Council resolutions. During the June 6 meeting, Washington learned of Warmbier's condition.

Kim Dong Chul, a 62-year-old Korean-American missionary formerly of Fairfax, Virginia, was sentenced in March 2016 to 10 years of hard labour for subversion. Doctors in Cincinnati said they found no active sign of botulism or evidence of beatings. They did not cite a specific cause of death. Fred Warmbier, the student's father, has said he does not believe this account.

The parents of a journalist executed in 2014 after being held hostage in Syria by the Islamic State group are offering their condolences to the family of a student from OH who died after being detained in North Korea for almost 18 months. Poor hygienic conditions, diet or bad medical care may have been responsible for a coma that North Korean doctors couldn't handle.

The U.S. and North Korea have no diplomatic relations.

"Working with such a country, we must achieve the goal of the complete dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear program", Moon said.

The last thing conservatives want, the argument goes, is curious American tourists talking with citizens and undercutting decades of propaganda that assures North Koreans that they are the envy of the world.

USA college student Otto Warmbier died Monday, days after his release from North Korea.

From Capitol Hill to the White House, pressure mounted for a tough US response, even as USA diplomats sought to protect others Americans from facing a similar fate.

In a possible rebuke of his predecessor, President Barack Obama, Trump added of Warmbier: "Frankly, if he were brought home sooner, I think the result would have been a lot different". "You've got to capitalize on this, and influence their internal debates to get them to recognize and acknowledge what happened". Outside groups say North Korea tortures thousands of its own citizens at prison camps.

The 22-year-old, who was released in a coma last week after almost 18 months in detention in North Korea, died on Monday - prompting President Donald Trump to slam the "brutal regime" in Pyongyang.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has been unable to pursue the engagement with the North he favors because of a string of North Korean missile tests.

The coroner's office in Cincinnati is investigating the death of an American college student who died less than a week after his return from North Korea, where he was detained for almost a year and a half.

North Korea said Warmbier went into a coma after contracting botulism and taking a sleeping pill. He said he was kept isolated most of the time but not physically abused. More than 15 months after he gave a staged confession in North Korea, he is with.

Whether North Korea will actually respond to pressure or talks is unclear.

The U.S. doesn't now prohibit its passports from being used to travel to any countries, even though financial restrictions limit U.S.travel to Cuba and elsewhere.
