Bomber Christine Connor jailed for targeting police in Belfast attack”

A woman who posed as a model to entrap a man into participating in a plot to kill police officers in a bomb attack has been jailed for 16 years.

A woman described as a lone-wolf dissident republican, has been jailed for 16 years and four months for attempting to murder police officers.

The judge told Connor he believed she was risky and was "committed to a violent philosophy to achieve political objectives".

Connor pleaded guilty to six charges in total.

Connor attacked police in North Belfast with blast bombs on two occasions in May 2013 after luring them into the area with fake 999 calls.

The pictures used to create the Facebook profile Connor used to converse with the men were of a stunning Swedish fashion blogger Sanne Andersson, in nearly all the pictures she was dressed in a bikini.

After months of planning, Connor launched her first attack on officers in north Belfast on May 16th, 2013. Christine used this failed attack as a "trial run" for the strike on May 28 when she threw two IEDs at officers from the lane beside the house she had lured officers to.

He and another officer from the Police Service of Northern Ireland were responding to an emergency call from a woman who claimed she was being attacked by her boyfriend in May 2013.

In a recording of the 999 call, Connor could be heard telling the call-handler: "I need the police".

In reality the court was told she is a woman, who despite being just 31-years-old is in poor health, facing a lengthy prison sentence, her two accomplices both dead by their own hand after the reality of the situation they'd found themselves in became too much. I am very fortunate that me and my colleague did not suffer serious injuries. Shrapnel from the explosives travelled up to 35m and was found lodged in nearby homes.

Neither men had any previous connections to Northern Ireland.

"She planned this attack over quite a period of time and used a web of deceit and lies to enlist the help of Stuart Downes".

In one of the calls, she pretended to be a victim of domestic violence.

Mobile phones, laptops and sim cards were found hidden inside her mattress. Officers believe she used these to communicate with her co-conspirator Downes.

Mr Downes sourced and purchased the explosives before shipping them to Connor in Belfast.

As well as the attempted murder of a policeman, she admitted two counts of possessing explosives with intent to endanger life, two counts of causing an explosion likely to endanger life and one charge of preparing for terrorist acts. They've both since taken their own lives.

Police believe he played a "key part" in the attacks and they found footage on his phone of him testing the explosive mix.

Mr Gevelinger was arrested and questioned by officers after he visited Connor while she was on remand in Hydebank Prison in July 2013.

Connor also pointed out that being in sight of the houses may be a problem because someone may be able to spot her from their homes.

The FBI searched his house in the U.S. on behalf of the PSNI and seized computer equipment that confirmed the link to Connor. He died last month in non-suspicious circumstances.
