Florida upends Louisville to reach bracket final in CWS”

Expected power on the mound, unexpected power at the plate. The Gators got seven strong innings from Brady Singer in a 5-1 victory over Louisville. The Gators will play again at 8 p.m. Friday against the victor of a Thursday elimination game between Louisville and Texas Christian University.

Louisville did out-hit Florida 7-5. Things got scary in the seventh when Colin Lyman drove-in a run with a base hit. A base hit and walk followed, but the Cardinals left the bases loaded when Logan Taylor grounded out. "Like Coach said, that's baseball and I'm not too anxious about it".

A discrepancy on the ball-strike count arose in the third inning when Louisville's Taylor took first base on a full count rather than a ball four.

"In the first inning, that ball looked like a wiffle ball", Florida coach Kevin O'Sullivan said.

Florida tacked on another run in the seventh inning off of Cardinal relief pitcher Adam Elliott. "That 4-pitch walk was on me, but then a jam shot and then the guy golfs the ball over the fence". "He taught me how to slow my heart rate down and execute what [O'Sullivan] calls". He surrendered just three hits while striking out nine, but the two long ball hits, both coming with two outs were painful.

O'Sullivan said Singer has been "pitching angry" since the Arkansas game. "I've done that before and he's let me know his thoughts".

Florida scored first when Austin Langworthy clubbed a solo homer down the left field line with one out in the third inning, his fourth homer of the year. The resulting "bong" touched off a roar from the Gators fans among the 22,222 in attendance.

"I guess I was getting a little bit exhausted", Singer said. Merrill, playing before friends and family in his hometown, homered to start a three-run third inning and the roomies helped keep the Frogs' season going with a 4-1 win over Texas A&M in a College World Series elimination game.

It was only Langworthy's fourth home run, second since March 3.

Liput said the tight-knit nature of the Gators' squad is one of the main reasons he has stuck around.

Odd game, baseball. Langworthy and Liput have been two of the Gators' least effective hitters this season. He now has two in his last four games.

Florida added a fifth run in the seventh when Rivera doubled into the right-center field gap to score Liput, who led the way for the Gators, going 2 for 3 with a walk, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Fullwood ordered Taylor to return to the batter's box, and McClure struck him out on the next pitch.

Devin Hairston singled in the second for the Cards' first hit.

McClure said he didn't feel like he was making bad pitches in the inning.

The Gators put together an impressive two-out rally in the fourth.

That's how it played out for Kade McClure and the Louisville baseball team June 20 at the College World Series.

Deacon Liput's homer for Florida against Louisville on Tuesday night was the 10th in eight CWS games.
