Oscar-Winner Daniel Day-Lewis Retiring From Acting

Oscar-Winner Daniel Day-Lewis Retiring From Acting”

Daniel Day-Lewis, the Oscar- and BAFTA-winning actor, has announced his retirement.

Daniel Day-Lewis' spokeswoman, Leslee Dart, confirmed the news in a statement. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years.

This is a developing story...

The 60-year-old, three-time Oscar victor announced today via his publicist that he's done with acting for good.

Day-Lewis has played everything from artists and warriors, to presidents and gang leaders in his illustrious - albeit selective - career, and there will no doubt be much talk about which of the actor's films saw his peak performance.

Day-Lewis, one of the most celebrated actors of his generation, has been nominated for Best Actor Oscar five times and has taken home the trophy on three occasions, for 1989's My Left Foot, 2007's There Will Be Blood and for 2012's Lincoln. He also received nominations for his roles in Gangs of NY and In the Name of the Father. He remains the only performer to ever win three Academy Awards for Best Actor.

Day-Lewis hasn't appeared in a film for nearly five years, his most recent role being the title role in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln.

Known as a top-flight method actor, Day-Lewis often prepared for roles by getting into character even when the cameras were not rolling.

No further explanation was given for his decision, first reported by Variety.

Day-Lewis will next appear in Paul Thomas Anderson's "Phantom Thread", his second collaboration with the director, which is already in post production and due out on Christmas this year.
