Telangana: KCR launches sheep distribution scheme”

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao officially launched the TRS Government's prestigious sheep distribution programme at Kondapaka Mandal headquarters in Gajwel on Tuesday. 7,61,000 applications have been received from across the state and 7,18,000 units have been sanctioned. The scheme is estimated to cost Rs 10,000 crore to the state exchequer. On the occasion, as many as 825 beneficiaries were handed over sheep.

KCR, as the chief minister is popularly known, said every day almost 250 trucks loads of sheep arrive at the Hyderabad market from all over the country.

"It is shameful that despite the presence of a population of 30 lakh Golla and Kuruma people, Telangana sources about 650 lorries of sheep from different parts of the country including Rajasthan", declared KCR.

He said after the rural economy was strengthened by the measures that the government had initiated, he was confident that by 2024 the State Annual Budget outlay would be around Rs 5 lakh crore from the present Rs 1.55 lakh crore.

KCR asserted that Telangana within three years of formation has emerged as number one in economic growth in the country.

Not only is the stock being sourced from other states, but grass is being planted on 46 lakh acres of land to ensure enough fodder and 100 mobile veterinary clinics are set up. "Our aim is to boost financial development and surpass others in its wealth and offer fruits of labour among the needy and poor", the Chief Minister said.Taking a dig at the Opposition criticism and their coming in the way of irrigation projects and development, KCR said his government was committed to implement various welfare and development programs. Each unit comprises 21 sheep.

While the subsidy component is Rs 93,750, including Rs 15,000 for transport and insurance of the animals, the beneficiary's share is only Rs 31,250.
