Yale dean on leave over offensive Yelp reviews leaves post

Yale dean on leave over offensive Yelp reviews leaves post”

Chu, who became dean in spring 2016, had been placed on leave in May because of offensive reviews of a Japanese restaurant and a movie theater in downtown New Haven on Yelp.

June Chu will leave her position as Yale's Pierson College dean. "No one, especially those in trusted positions of educating young people, should denigrate or stereotype others, and that extends to any form of discrimination based on class, race, religion, age, disability, gender identity, or sexual orientation". "As a result, I am initiating the process of the search for a new dean, who will be in place before the start of the fall term".

An email sent to Chu's Yale account yielded an automatic reply that said, "I am unavailable".

Chu was placed on leave last month after the reviews from her personal Yelp account began circulating on campus.

Chu did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Chu apologized to her students and acknowledged that her actions were wrong.

Later that day, the News obtained and published almost a dozen screenshots of additional derogatory reviews posted from Chu's account, which neither Chu nor Davis had mentioned in their emails. The reviews were deemed "reprehensible posts" by Pierson Head Stephen Davis.
