The US military just shot down another Syrian drone”

The Iranian-made Shaheed-129 drone was shot from the sky in the same location where another pro-regime drone dropped a dud bomb near coalition forces before it was shot down by an unidentified us aircraft down on June 8, the USA military operation fighting ISIS, Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), said in a statement.

A United States warplane shot down an Iranian-made drone operated by pro-regime forces in Syria early Tuesday, officials said, prompting growing worldwide concern over rising tensions between the two sides.

The US-led coalition conducted what the Pentagon said was a "show of force" - a reported buzzing of the pro-government troops by jets - to stop the attack and then called the Syrian government's ally, Russia, to try to "de-escalate the situation and stop the firing".

The U.S. military is training its local allied forces near Syria's border with Iraq and Jordan.

"The Syrian regime ... needs to understand that we will keep the right of self-defense of coalition forces aligned against ISIS", White House spokesman Sean Spicer said.

On Sunday, a U.S. Navy F/A-18 warplane shot down a Syrian Air Force Su-22 that had dropped bombs near Syrian opposition forces. The incident, it claimed, took place in the same location where another pro-Syrian government drone dropped munition on June 8 targeting the Syrian Democratic Forces.

Australia has suspended its airstrikes against Islamic State targets in Syria as a precaution after a US fighter jet shot down a Syrian warplane earlier this week. Such a stance inevitably will lead the U.S. into more conflict with the Assad regime and with Russian Federation.

And a Russian fighter jet flew within five feet of a U.S. Air Force reconnaissance aircraft in the Baltic Sea, according to a United States official.

"Dirty wings" is a military term used to describe a plane carrying armaments. It's an area over which Iran hopes to establish strategic control, thereby creating a corridor from Lebanon and Syria through Baghdad to Tehran. Defending SDF units that are engaged in the fight against ISIS would be one thing.

Drone was perceived as threat to US troops.

US Air Forces Central Command, which oversees air operations in the region, did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday's incident. This month has seen American forces attack a regime tank convoy, an Iranian-made drone, a Syrian jet, and now another drone, this one also made in Iran.

The aim is "to ensure that they can't easily be excluded, and that they remain on track to ultimately retake the entirety of the country", Heller said. While the Assad government said the plane was on a mission against Islamic State militants, the USA claimed it dropped bombs near U.S. forces.

With the skies over Syria growing increasingly crowded, a statement from the Australian Defense Department released in the capital, Canberra, said that "Australian Defense Force protection is regularly reviewed in response to a range of potential threats".

Trump may decide he doesn't want to commit US ground forces to that struggle.

Both the administration of former President Barack Obama and Mr Trump's have focused exclusively on defeating the IS, but with the militants' self-proclaimed caliphate shrinking, US-backed and Syrian-backed forces appear to be competing for territory.
