California winner of $447M Powerball can claim prize Monday”

Forty-two workers claimed a $1 million Powerball prize Friday at Rhode Island lottery headquarters, a representative for the group told WJAR.

California lottery officials say the sole winning ticket for the $447.8 million Powerball jackpot was sold in Sun City.

Saturday's winning numbers were 20, 26, 32, 38 and 58 with a Powerball of 3. The victor has one year to claim the prize.

According to HuffPost.com: The grand prize in the multi-state USA lottery soared to its highest in months after 19 straight drawings failed to produce a victor.

The lucky punter matched all six numbers on their Powerball ticket which was sold in southern California.

A Powerball ticket costs $2. The other option of a lump-sum payout would reduce the cash prize to $279 million. Both prize amounts would be before taxes are deducted.

The Powerball jackpot had been accumulating since April 1.

Alberre's father, who co-owns the store, suffers from pulmonary fibrosis.

Matthew Alberre, the store's manager, said he was with family celebrating his cousin's high school graduation when he received word about the winning ticket. The homes today are part of Menifee, population 89,000, but those living in Sun City still proudly call the community by its original name, Blais said.
