Grenfell Tower insulation and tiles failed all safety tests, police confirm

The Government has ordered an immediate examination by experts of the model of Hotpoint fridge freezer involved in the Grenfell Tower fire, Downing Street said.

Referring to the tiles and insulation on the outside of the building, which have been widely blamed for the rapid spread of the flames, she said: "All I can say at the moment is they don't pass any safety tests".

McCormack said the number of people dead or presumed dead remains at 79, but she fears the true number could be higher.

Manslaughter charge is among the offences that will be considered in the Grenfell Tower investigation, the police said.

"At least 79 people are dead - it is both a tragedy and an outrage because every single one of those deaths could and should have been avoided", Corbyn said.

Det Supt McCormack said they were trying to get to the bottom of why the fire started so quickly.

"Shortly before I came to the chamber, I was informed that a number of these tests have come back as combustible", she said. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said that the speed with which the fire spread was "unexpected", the BBC reported.

Mandy Ryan received a letter from Camden Council warning that urgent renovations were planned to Chalcots Estate after tests found "the panels that were fitted were not to the standard that we had commissioned".

She stated that the immigration status of those in the building would not be investigated.

Newlon, a nonprofit that manages the complex and others in London, said fire officials "made some straightforward recommendations for the building, which we have already started work on".

Meanwhile, Kensington MP Emma Dent Coad told Mrs May residents in her constituency had been left "traumatised and frightened" after the Grenfell Tower fire.

Premier Inn has admitted it is "extremely concerned" about fire trap cladding on three of its newest hotels following the Grenfell Tower fire.

A spokeswoman for Ms May said that while the samples taken from those identified buildings failed government tests, it did not mean the tower blocks were "unsafe". "We will let residents know the outcome of the tests as soon as we are told".

The investigation comes as authorities acknowledge the risks posed by exterior cladding to thousands of people around the country who live in blocks like Grenfell Tower.

It added that there is "no specific reason" for people with one of these fridge-freezers to switch them off pending further investigation.
