LSU commit Bigby-Williams under investigation for sexual assault

University of OR police have known about the case involving Bigby-Williams since September 28 - two days after the fall 2016 academic term began - public records show.

This news, if true, once again brings player transgressions to light heading into a Summer of rebuilding for the Oregon Men's Basketball team.

Bigby-Williams, who has one year of college eligibility remaining, announced via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon that he would finish his career with the Tigers. He first declared his intention to transfer two months ago, shortly after OR lost to UNC in the Final Four. The Northern Wyoming Community College District (NWCCD) campus police then began its investigation, which according to Jacoby remains open, though NWCCD police refused to comment about it. Bigby-Williams has since announced his intention to transfer to Louisiana State. The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics' only role was to provide contact information for the player and to coordinate with the university's Title IX coordinator. An Oregon campus police detective unsuccessfully tried to interview Bigby-Williams twice before his attorney told her not to contact the basketball player anymore.

When approached by a reporter with questions about Bigby-Williams, university president Michael Schill said he had not been aware of the allegations and declined to share more, instead comparing being under investigation for sexual assault to being a reporter asking "obnoxious" questions. Detective Kathy Flynn then requested the player's contact information from the OR athletic department, but no one there asked the police officer why she wanted that information, a school spokesman told Jacoby. "In any event, I can't comment on an individual student". You can view Flynn's incident report here.

A former OR basketball player who announced Tuesday that he was transferring to LSU played last season while under investigation for an alleged sexual assault, according to a report by UO student media. The other, Brandon Austin, was sitting out the season after transferring from Providence, where he had been suspended for a year while he was being investigated for a separate sexual assault. Altman came under fire for the decision to let the three play, claiming that he knew an "incident" was being investigated but didn't know which players were involved or why. According to Jacoby, the NWCCD police asked University of OR police in September to interview Bigby-Williams about the incident. The alleged victim then sued Altman and OR in January 2015, eventually settling for $800,000 and free tuition.

When contacted by The Advocate on Thursday morning, first-year LSU coach Will Wade said he couldn't comment on the report because Bigby-Williams had not yet signed with the school.

Bigby-Williams was one of the top JUCO Transfers in the Nation when he came to play for Dana Altman past year.
