Sen. Elizabeth Warren Slams 'Blood Money' GOP Health Care Bill

Senate Republicans unveiled a bill earlier on Thursday in a step forward to fulfil their seven-year-long promise to replace the Affordable Care Act, a piece of legislation that was considered the centrepiece of Obama's legacy and coined "Obamacare". It also repeals the individual mandate penalty under Obamacare, and it would end most of the taxes that paid for the Affordable Care Act.

Furthermore, he expressed hope that senators would reevaluate the consequences of the new measure and consider a more rational approach than "simply undoing something that Democrats did".

"Rather than starting from scratch-as senators promised-this latest version of the American Health Care Act is equally misguided and harsh as the House bill".

Republican Senate leadership wants a vote on the bill before July 4.

Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he thinks the bill will bridge the divide between moderates and conservatives in his party on key issues.

Not only did the suggestion irk Republicans because of its implication of callousness, but Trump's suggestion would also put the bill at risk of violating Senate rules.

Those cuts are especially cruel at a time when an aging population will increasingly depend on Medicaid, including for nursing home care, and when states need Medicaid to combat opioid addiction.

Republicans argue that the Senate bill does not cut Medicaid to anyone in the near future, but instead slows the rate of growth until 2021.

Maybe they're waiting for the Congressional Budget Office to crunch the numbers.

Not only that, free-market ideas such as buying insurance across state lines and association health plans, which allow small businesses to band together to buy insurance for their employees, were left out of the Senate bill.

Medical groups are beginning to weigh in on the Senate Republican health care bill, and they have problems with the proposal.

Through the ACA, Obama notes, more than 90 percent of Americans have health insurance. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found almost 60 percent of adults believed the House bill would make insurance costlier for low-income Americans and people with pre-existing conditions.

"The Medicaid cuts are even more draconian that the House bill was, though they take effect more gradually than the House bill did", Pearson says.

"When we look at the bill, we actually find that with the ObamaCare subsidies, not only are we keeping them, we may actually be providing more subsidies than ObamaCare has", Sen.
