Sunk? Four GOP Senators Oppose The Better Care Reconciliation Act

On the Senate floor Thursday, Cornyn single-handedly defended the bill at length against several disgruntled Democrats, including Minority Leader Chuck Schumer from NY, who criticized the way the Republicans crafted the bill.

Obamacare helped young people get insured by allowing them to stay on their parents' insurance until they were 26. "Jewish tradition's emphasis on caring for the sick and lifting up those in need inspires us to call on Senators to reject the Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017". More people would be left out from getting help paying for premiums. "I haven't read the bill".

-Repeal a 2.3 percent excise tax on companies that make or import medical devices, saving them around $19 billion over the next decade.

"The Medicaid cuts are even more draconian that the House bill was, though they take effect more gradually than the House bill did", Pearson says. Avik Roy is a physician and founder of the conservative Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity.

Schumer concluded by claiming that many Republicans reject the notion that the government should provide health insurance to needy Americans.

Under Obamacare, almost everyone had to either obtain health insurance or pay a penalty.

CAROLINE PEARSON: If you're paying, you know, a similar percentage of income, you're getting a less-generous product under this new plan. States would eventually receive a fixed amount - unlike the current open-ended funding requirement - in the form of a block grant or a figure based on the number of enrollees. Coverage for pre-existing conditions.

The bill bars the use of subsidies for plans that include abortion coverage and Planned Parenthood would be defunded for one year. "As we did with all 435 Members of the House of Representatives, AARP will also hold all 100 Senators accountable for their votes on this harmful health care bill".

The group says the more gradual phase-out of Medicaid expansion now covering 400,000 Arizonans gives states more time to adjust.

About 90 percent of the benefit from repealing the tax would go to the top 1 percent of earners, who make $700,000 or more, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

And Obama called on Americans to lobby their senators, in order to slow down the Republican bill's consideration and pressure GOP lawmakers into negotiating with Democrats on the proposal.
