Trump Gives Nancy Pelosi a Backhanded Compliment”

Johnson talked about how he warned the Democratic National Committee that their system was compromised, yet they declined his offer to help protect themselves from cyberattacks.

He said the Democratic Party, however, isn't self-aware enough to realize that they'll always have an uphill battle if she's the face of the party.

Pelosi made it clear that she had no plans to step down from her post.

"And I think the answer is obvious", Vela said.

The party leader's defense comes as some younger members of her caucus have voiced concerns about the Democratic brand and appeal with Pelosi at the helm.

"Nancy Pelosi was a great speaker". Democrats need to net 24 seats to win back the House.

Democratic Party divisions are on stark display after a disappointing special election loss in a hard-fought Georgia congressional race. "But we're still losing". I think our leadership owes us an explanation for what's going on in these four elections but also a plan moving forward.

"I want to be a uniting force in the community", said Handel.

Rice's sentiment was echoed by other House Democrats in recent months including Reps. "They're anxious about paying the bills". This is a Republican district, and they won it like they should have; just like they won the other two special elections in Kansas and Montana this year. Instead, the victory gave the majority party a sigh of relief, for now - and emboldened the president.

Democrats have had four opportunities to pick up seats in the U.S. House of Representatives since Donald Trump became president, and haven't been able to capitalize on any of them. Rather, Trump said, "That would be very bad for the Republican Party" if Pelosi were forced out.

President Trump took to Twitter Thursday to weigh in on whether Pelosi should resign.

When asked about the President's comments, Pelosi said "I think they wrote that for him, it's a classic Republican line".

BENNETT: Another reason why Democrats shouldn't feel all that demoralized is Karen Handel's slim margin of victory, says House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Linda Sanchez. He tried and failed last fall to unseat Pelosi as House minority leader.

The minority leader is elected during a behind-closed-doors vote by members of that particular party, with Pelosi last winning in November, 134-63 over Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan.

"There's a reason why the Republicans are still using it".

New York's own Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-Nassau) is far from alone in saying, "It's time for Nancy Pelosi to go, and the entire leadership team".

This will not significantly change the balance of power in Washington, where Republicans control the White House and both chambers of Congress. "We passed the Affordable Care Act, we passed Dodd-Frank", she added.

"We're not focusing on the economic messages".
