After 16 hours, jury unable to reach verdict at Bill Cosby trial”

A USA jury will resume deliberations Tuesday on whether disgraced comedy legend Bill Cosby sexually assaulted a woman at his Philadelphia home more than 13 years ago, after failing to reach a verdict Monday. They were chosen in Pittsburgh and bused 300 miles to suburban Philadelphia, where they are sequestered until the trial's end.

After they were served dinner (hot stromboli), the jury asked for a read-back of excerpts from the testimony of Richard Schaffer, the local police detective who interviewed Cosby in 2005 about what accuser Andrea Constand said Cosby did to her in his nearby home in 2004.

The counts against Cosby of aggravated indecent assault applied in the commonwealth's case address the alleged lack of consent, delivery of an intoxicating substance and Constand's unconscious state. "Knowing Mr. Cosby is to know he's a comedian, there's always that sense of laughter and I was grateful to see his spirit hadn't been broken as a result of this process because it's arduous", she added, "There's nothing happy, there's nothing good about it for either side".

Constand testified for more than seven hours last week and said that Cosby gave her three pills that left her unable to stop the alleged sexual assault.

The sudden outburst felt distinctly out of place in the deliberations in which Cosby is accused of having drugged and sexually assaulted Andrea Constand in 2004. Cosby declined to testify in his own defense, and his attorneys only called one witness.

Defence attorney Brian McMonagle in his closing statement said Cosby was guilty of adultery, which is not a crime, but not sexual assault.

Prosecutors have tried to portray Cosby as a serial predator, calling a second woman, Kelly Johnson, to testify that he sexually assaulted her in 1996 and showing jurors his deposition testimony in which he admitted giving young women sedatives in the 1970s.

"Yes, he has been unfaithful but if she is willing to forgive him, that's between him and his wife".

The entertainer did not take the stand at his trial, but prosecutors used his deposition testimony - given in 2005 and 2006 as part of Ms Constand's civil suit against him - as evidence.

Cosby later told police the pills were Benadryl, an over-the-counter cold and allergy medicine.

After taking the pills, Constand said, she had trouble talking and difficulty moving and was suffering double vision, before briefly losing consciousness. The actress' conversation on Today regarding the Bill Cosby rape trial can be viewed below.

The jury in Bill Cosby's sexual assault case appears ready to work late for the third night in a row. "He's been upbeat", she said.

"Your friends", Cosby said he told her.

Unfortunately, if the jury if still not able to reach a verdict unanimously, then the judge may be forced to call a mistrial.

Cosby's daughter, Evin, took to social media in April to assert her father is "not a rapist."

Keshia Knight Pulliam, who played Rudy Huxtable on "The Cosby Show", escorted Cosby into court on the first day of the trial. The company declined to say if Kalanick's decision was related to the report.
