Committee Asks Loretta Lynch for Clinton E-mail Convos”

The Senate Judiciary Committee wants to hear from former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, after ousted FBI Director James Comey implied she interfered in the investigation of Hillary Clinton's private email server during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The committee cited stories in The New York Times and The Washington Post about a purported Russian intelligence document saying that Lynch had given assurances to the Clinton campaign about the FBI's investigation.

At that hearing, Comey told the senators that his concern over possible ethical impropriety involved in the Clinton investigation gave him pause.

Comey told the committee earlier this month that Lynch, his superior in the Justice Department, had asked him to refer to the probe as a "matter", rather than an investigation, while authorizing him to confirm its existence.

Lawmakers asked Lynch about any communications she or her staff might have had with Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman.

Sen. Lindsay Graham, who would have been present for classified testimony on the Russian Federation probe, has publicly stated that he doubted the purported Lynch document was fake. Lynch tried to shape the way he talked about the investigation into Mrs. Clinton's emails, and he also hinted at other behavior "which I can not talk about yet" that made him anxious about Ms. But her meeting with President Clinton on that airplane was the capper for me.

Lynch, Renteria, Bernardo, and Open Society Foundations General Counsel Gail Scovell all were sent letters. Lynch would keep the Clinton investigation from going too far, according to several former officials familiar with the document.

The issue of a possible document implicating Lynch is shrouded in conflicting news media reports and testimony implying that the matter has been presented in closed session before the Senate Intelligence Committee. Many U.S. intelligence officials, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, believe the memo is unreliable or an outright fake.

Acknowledging that he didn't know whether it was intentional, Mr. Comey said Ms. When he approached the former attorney general, he was all but thrown out of her office without a response.

An email reportedly recounting that alleged conversation and authored by Rep.
