House Intelligence Committee requests Comey's Trump meeting notes, White House tapes

House Intelligence Committee requests Comey's Trump meeting notes, White House tapes”

Trump is moving aggressively to defend himself in the aftermath of James Comey's testimony to the Senate.

On Friday, the leaders of the House of Representatives intelligence committee's investigation said they had asked Mr Comey for his notes and memos about his discussions with Mr Trump, and also asked the White House for its notes and memos on the same. The committee is investigating Russian interference in the US presidential election and whether Trump's campaign colluded with Russia.

Trump called the controversy "just an excuse" by Democrats who had lost the presidential election. "There's no ambiguity in it, there's no, 'Hey, I'm hoping, '" Trump said.

Neither the Trump Organization nor the White House immediately responded to ABC News' request for comment about Trump Jr's remarks.

On March 30, 10 days after Comey had testified that there was an ongoing investigation into possible coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, the president called Comey.

Trump's offer to testify heightens the drama of his standoff with Comey, who told senators that Trump had demanded his personal loyalty and had pressured him to drop a counterintelligence investigation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

The probe was also looking at ties between Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn and Moscow.

Here's how Thursday hurts Trump: Comey said one of Trump's complaints to him was that the Russian Federation probe, though not focused on the president, constituted "a cloud" impairing his ability to pursue his political agenda.

The president added that he would "100 percent" be willing to testify under oath to dispute Comey's account of their meeting.

"Maybe someday", Trump said then.

Mueller will likely seek to determine whether anyone on the White House staff discussed what Trump was going to say to, or do with, Comey.

During nearly three hours of statements Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey described himself as "stunned" by Trump's "very disturbing" and "very concerning" behavior towards him.

Trump's private attorney, Marc Kasowitz, seized on Comey's admission that he had told Trump on multiple occasions that he was not personally under investigation and maintained the testimony made clear that Trump "never, in form or substance, directed or suggested that Mr. Comey stop investigating anyone".

The Trump administration has also highlighted the fact Comey stopped short of accusing the president of obstructing justice - a potentially impeachable offense. "#Movingday", the first lady tweeted Sunday evening after she and Barron arrived at the White House with Trump.

"I did not tell the President that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice had been reluctant to make public statements that we did not have an open case on President Trump for a number of reasons, most importantly because it would create a duty to correct, should that change".

"WOW, Mr Comey is a leaker!"

The information was leaked to a reporter of "The New York Times" through a professor from the Columbia Law School.

Clinton was tried in the Senate "for matters less serious than the ones before us now", Inglis said. "No plausible case. We must distinguish crimes from pol sins".

When asked why Comey didn't report that Trump asked him to drop the FBI investigation into Flynn to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Comey said he had shared details of their conversations with "the senior leadership team of the FBI". Their request, submitted via a letter, asked that the copies of any such materials be given to the committee by June 23.

Given Comey's reputation as a methodical, ultra-cautious investigator, the testimony was damning, said a Washington lawyer who served in a top position in a prior administration.

Comey admitted that leak after Sen.
