Nadal crushes Wawrinka to win historic 10th French Open title

Nadal crushes Wawrinka to win historic 10th French Open title”

Emotions overwhelmed Nadal as he soaked up the glory of his tenth French Open victory.

Paris: Rafael Nadal's magnificent run to a 10th French Open title has earned the Spaniard a move into second in the latest ATP world rankings published on Monday.

Nadal, who defeats the third choose of Rolando Garro Tournament on Sunday, defeated Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.

With 31-year-old Nadal five years younger than the Swiss, time might be on his side to eventually come out tops. Thank you to the organisers, the other players, to all the people that make this tournament possible. "He's going for his 10th Roland Garros, so it's something really impressive, something tough".

"I'm not that interested in the numbers.10, 11 or nine".

"If I have pain in my knees, then I know it's nearly impossible".

After losing just his second match here against Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals in 2015, Nadal was forced to pull out ahead of the third round a year ago with a left wrist injury. "Not in the shape I would have performed on clay", he said.

"Trust me, this is an happy moment for me because it's great to be the one to set this record".

"He puts this doubt in your head when you play against him", said Wawrinka, who had been 3-0 in Grand Slam finals, including a victory over Nadal at the 2014 Australian Open.

"For sure he's playing the best he's ever played".

No. 1 Andy Murray is the defending champion.

This was the 15th grand slam win for the Spaniard, who is referred as "Master of Clay". I just won the most important event of the year for me. "Winning these kind of titles, then you have chances to become any number (in) the ranking".

After a few days' rest, Nadal will travel to London to play in next week's Aegon Championships at Queen's Club, where he has competed only once since 2011.

Nadal was forced to pull out of last year's French Open - the tournament he cherishes most - after potential career-threatening damage to his left wrist tendons. Nadal fell to Federer in two of the three title matches, but on clay, the Spaniard has been almost ideal.

"I am very sorry to say that I am not going to be able play Queen's next week", the world No. 2 said on his Facebook page. And I miss playing well at Wimbledon.

Though, Rafa will probably play Boodles exhibition event the week before Church Road event so that he can see how he feels on grass.
