Spanish prosecutors accuse Mourinho of 3.3 mln eur tax fraud

Spanish prosecutors accuse Mourinho of 3.3 mln eur tax fraud”

In a statement obtained by Reuters, the Spanish prosecutor said: "Ceding image rights to (Tollin Associates) was completely unnecessary and its only objective was to create a screen to hide the totality of his image rights income from the Spanish tax authorities".

According to Spanish daily ABC.es, Ronaldo has listened to the counsel of his legal team and agreed to pay the almost 15 million euros in back taxes that he owes Spanish tax authorities.

"Jose Mourinho has not received any type of communications related to this".

The Red Devils have been put on alert after it emerged Ronaldo wants to leave the Spanish capital this summer despite winning his third Champion League title as a Real Madrid player earlier this month.

Real's president Florentino Perez insisted this week that there are no plans to sell the 32-year-old forward, but former Bernabeu favourite Figo believes no player is bigger than the club.

A court in Madrid is understood to be dealing with the claim.

The Portuguese manager owes Spanish tax authorities 3.3 million euros ($3.7 million), a Madrid prosecutor said in a statement, adding it had presented a claim to a local court.

Other clients of Mendes who have ended up in Spain include the Portuguese full-back Fabio Coentrao - on the verge of joining Sporting Lisbon on loan from Real Madrid - and Colombian striker Radamel Falcao, now with Monaco but formerly at Atletico Madrid.

The football world in Spain has been rocked by charges of tax evasion or corruption pressed against some of its other leading stars.

Under Spanish law, a first-time offender is not required to serve time in jail for a sentence below two years.
