Talks to support Conservatives making progress, DUP says

Talks to support Conservatives making progress, DUP says”

The man who has begun a legal challenge to the proposed DUP deal with the Tories has said that he will not be walking away from the challenge until either the DUP-Tory talks collapse or he has exhausted court options.

"The prime minister is moving this process, the agreement process, forward", Donaldson said.

One source told the Press Association: "They thought they had us in the bag and they wouldn't have to pay a price for it".

It remains unclear exactly what the impasse around the DUP-Tory negotiations is - or even what the central demands are.

On terrorism, Mr Dodds also told MPs: "Clearly combating the threats posed to innocent life, to our way of life by terrorism must be at the very top of the new Government's agenda".

At one point, another MP asked Mrs May how she was "going to convince the country that she can negotiate a successful Brexit within the time limit, with 27 other European Union countries, when she hasn't been able even to negotiate a deal with 10 DUP members of this House in the time limit before the Queen's Speech?".

Talks are ongoing between the Conservatives and DUP over a "confidence and supply" arrangement to help get Government legislation through the House of Commons.

The sources said there had been some problems with the Treasury in regard to concessions the DUP is seeking for the Northern Ireland economy, including the abolition or cutting of air passenger duty tax.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4, Donaldson said in exchange for agreeing to back the Tory program in government, his party wanted "recognition from the government that after 30 years of a very violent conflict in Northern Ireland when capital resources were spent on security ... our infrastructure fell way behind the rest of the United Kingdom".

The solicitors' said that any DUP-Tory agreement "is unlawful because it breaches the word of the Good Friday Agreement, it compromises the Government's independence and breaches the reasonable expectation of the citizens of Northern Ireland, including Mr McClean, that the Government will comply with its terms". "But we have a lot in common".

"We're both, obviously, very concerned with combating terrorism, we both have similar views about delivering a good Brexit for this country, and, obviously, we're both very, very concerned with the Irish border issue".
