Chris Wilder: Sheffield United boss 'agrees contract extension'

Chris Wilder: Sheffield United boss 'agrees contract extension'”

An unhappy Chesterfield director Ashley Carson says Sheffield United have performed a "U-turn" over the loan deal for David Brooks.

Simon Moore was Wilder's first choice in 2016/17 as his team won the League One title, but needs to sign some competition.

Wilder has been linked with the vacant managerial role at Sunderland in recent weeks but it looks as if he is set to solidify his position at the helm of the Blades.

"I'm delighted and proud to manage this football club", he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

The Blades have added four players so far this summer as they prepare for their first season back in the Championship after six seasons in the third tier.

Wilder also touched upon a couple of his transfer targets, saying that he hopes to conclude deals for Charlton Athletic midfielder Ricky Holmes as well as Southend United midfielder Ryan Leonard in the near future.

"I think it's common knowledge we have bids out for Ricky and Ryan, but we understand that these deals don't always get completed", he said. "You can reach a point where you have to move on".

"We were looking forward to welcoming the player to the Proact but Gary Caldwell will now have to bring in another midfield player to take his place".

The 19-year-old midfielder came through the Sheffield United academy and is seen as the latest potential great to come through the Blades youth system.
