Seth Meyers slams the Senate GOP's 'cruel' healthcare bill

Dean Heller of Nevada said Friday he opposes the GOP bill that would scuttle much of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, complicating the task party leaders face in guiding the banner legislation through the Senate.

The "Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017", the Senate's version of an ACA repeal and replace bill is slated to go to vote as early as this week.

President Donald Trump is now personally trying to woo fellow Republicans to get behind the health care legislation as five GOP senators have now publicly said they won't support the bill.

To pass the Senate, with unanimous Democratic opposition expected, Republicans can only afford two defectors.

— McConnell has the option of offering the final amendment, which could contain changes aimed at placating GOP holdouts. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell unveiled the Bill at a closed-door session with party faithful on Thursday.

"I will study the bill to determine whether it fulfills President Trump's campaign promises to lower premiums, maintain coverage and protect those with preexisting conditions without mandates", he said.

During a speech on the Senate Floor Thursday, McConnell said the plan was the product of dozens of meetings.

House bill: States would not be able to expand Medicaid after this year.

Yesterday the Republican leadership in the Senate released a draft bill to replace it, with a vote set for next week.

"We're seeing a similar bill that came out of the House and it's not a good bill", said Parkinson. The estimate was released Friday by Arizona's Medicaid agency, which analyzed the effects of the legislation on the state health insurance program for low-income people. I meant it. There were great things about the House bill, in particular its far-reaching reforms of the Medicaid program.

"As we estimate the cost of the subsidies to buy insurance, we actually believe they may exceed, or at least equal, the subsidies that are under Obamacare", said Paul.

The White House has yet to speak out against or in favor of the Senate AHCA bill.

Toomey, who helped craft the proposal, is among a handful of Republican lawmakers who support it, according to a roundup by The Washington Post. "However, it is also critical that strong incentives for people to keep continuous coverage be included to ensure a balanced market", the lobby group said. Reducing taxes, Republicans argue, will boost the economy, and shrinking spending on programs such as Medicaid will slow the growth of the federal debt.

"We're concerned that it would lead to dramatic cuts in services or dramatic cuts in the number of beneficiaries who would rely on Medicaid", said Kristine Grow, a spokeswoman for AHIP.
