Trump UK visit will go ahead

Trump UK visit will go ahead”

The UK government has put on hold plans to welcome US President Donald Trump to the UK for at least the next two years, it was confirmed on Wednesday.

Mrs May had extended an invitation to the United States' president just a week after he became the US President.

The Queen's speech usually mentions any state visits planned for the duration of the parliament, but Wednesday, she said she and Prince Philip "look forward to welcoming their majesties King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain on a state visit in July".

"There's a difference between the status of the Spanish state visit and the visit of President Trump", Johnson said. Prime Minister Theresa May invited the USA leader after they were pictured holding hands together on the White House lawn in January.

"The election result was not the one I hoped for, but this government will respond with humility and resolve to the message the electorate sent", May said in a statement.

"The formality is that you can not put the presidential visit in [the Queen's Speech] until the date has been agreed".

Johnson earlier this month said Trump's visit should go ahead as planned, despite an ongoing row between the USA president and London Mayor Sadiq Khan in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the United Kingdom capital.

The omission follows media reports that Trump no longer wants to come because of British public opposition to the visit, after a petition to cancel it received more than 1.8 million signatures.

Trump had to face the backlash against his visit after he criticized London Mayor Sadiq Khan in his two tweets.
