Baby in Coma for 5 Days Dies in Brooklyn; Father Remains Jailed

Baby in Coma for 5 Days Dies in Brooklyn; Father Remains Jailed”

A 16-month-old girl from Brooklyn, New York City, who had been fighting for her life for almost a week after police say she was beaten unconscious by her dad on Father's Day, has died. Police say the baby's mother, 17-year-old Tammy Lewis, picked her up from a visit with Taylor but then raced her out of his Coney Island apartment building because she was unresponsive.

Her mother Tammy Lewis, 17, dropped her off to spend quality time with him, in spite of the promises Shaquan Taylor, 18, made.

The little girl died as the city medical examiner was testifying about the case, with Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Frederick Arriaga then doubling Taylor's bail to $500,000.

Nylah's father, Shaquan Taylor, could now face murder charges.

. He faces at least seven years in prison if convicted on the felony charge, records said. He has been indicted for first-degree assault but prosecutors will seek to upgrade those charges in light of the child's death, according to a spokesperson for the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office. When Lewis arrived, she saw her daughter was face up on the couch and struggling to breathe and has bruises on her face. He is now charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child. "Do you know what it's like to be here for something I didn't do?" Within a few hours after dropping Nylah off, Taylor messaged Lewis on Facebook, claiming there was a problem with the baby and demanding Lewis to come over right away. "Told that lil b**** to get abortion [and] she tells me she is but still keep it".

Nylah's aunt Christine Munford recalled the little girl as a source of joy - and reviled the jailed father as a source of pain.

Officers were able to catch and arrest Taylor shortly after. Exactly why I hate that lil b***h. "'Just f***ed (that) hotty a**, that's it". She was immediately taken to Coney Island Hospital in critical condition.
