Bengaluru Start-Up CEO Loses Arm In Crocodile Attack, Now Faces A Penalty”

On Sunday morning, Dandwate - a resident of Indiranagar - and his female friend had gone to Mahadeshwara temple, located 38 km from city centre. After visiting the temple, Dandwate and his friend chose to take a plunge in the Thattakere lake adjacent to the temple in Anekal forest division, along with the dogs.

The forest staff rushed Mudit to a hospital in city, He is presently in the ICU. The dogs jumped into the water and Mudit chased his dogs but failed to notice the crocodile lurking in the waters. He did not see the crocodile while trying to pull out the dogs from water.

A trekking plan went horribly wrong for IIT alumnus, Mudit who is originally from Nagpur. As he chased the dogs out of the lake, one of the crocodiles jumped out of the waters and attacked him. It has electric fencing and many signboards warning people about the presence of crocodiles. The deadly croc ripped off his left arm from below the elbow, police said quoting his friend. Mudit was operated on at Hosmat Hospital to where he was taken to after he was rushed to a local hospital for first aid, and is recovering.

When his friend screamed for help, four forest officials came to rescue.

"The powerful bite has crushed the arm". The Ramanagaram Superintendent of Police, B Ramesh, told NDTV, that while no complaint had been made against him by anyone, but they had registered a case on their own as Mr Dandwate entered a restricted forest area without permission. "So we are now performing medical procedure called debridement, where is hand is being cleaned several time to make sure there is no infection", said Thomas Chandy, Chief of Orthopaedics, Hosmat hospital according to the TOI reports. "The wound will be kept open for a few days and we will close it once we are sure it won't turn infectious", he said and added that in three months' time, Mudit will be provided with an artificial forearm.

Officials of the forest department, which has taken over investigation into the incident, claimed there were boards at the lake warning about crocodiles.
