CAC tells Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble to bury the hatchet

CAC tells Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble to bury the hatchet”

Vinod Rai, chief of the Supreme Court-appointed CoA for the BCCI, yesterday said that Kumble would continue to serve as the head coach till the Indies series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) advertised for a coach in May with Kumble's one-year deal due to expire at the end of the Champions Trophy this week.

"In case there is a delay in taking a decision (by the CAC) we will request Anil Kumble to cover the West Indies tour also", Vinod Rai, the CoA chairman, told ESPNcricinfo.

The CAC's mediation has helped in buying some time for both the committee and the players so that this situation does not cloud India's Champions Trophy campaign. "Perhaps, Kumble would have to take a little step back if he wants to continue as a coach", a source said while adding the CAC would be meeting the team management again to assess the progress.

India's tour of the West Indies, which will include five One-Day Internationals (ODI) and a single Twenty20 International is scheduled to run from June 23 to July 9.

The term of the former India captain and leg-spinner as coach of his national team looks set to be extended until the end of the West Indies tour next month, a top official has said. "Both Virat and Kumble were spoken to by the CAC members and both have to agree on certain things".

"I know Anil Kumble, who is a wonderful person".

CAC had met in London on June 8 for coach selection process and chose to revert to BCCI at an "appropriate time".

Asked whether coach recruitment could have been handled better by the BCCI, Rai said the matter has been blown out of proportion with reports claiming a rift between captain Virat Kohi and Kumble.

"We have left it to the CAC, they are legends, they know what is best for Indian cricket", said Rai, who also rubbished a report claiming that CAC has asked to be paid for the honorary job. Last month, the BCCI chose to invite fresh applications for the position after being made aware of the players' reported unhappiness with Kumble's man-management skills.

The news of skipper Virat Kohli's alleged difference with Kumble has been making rounds for some time now. It's no different in cricket teams where there is a captain and coach.
