Celtics' Danny Ainge confident he will get his guy at No. 3”

The Celtics traded the first overall pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for the third overall pick in this year's draft and a future first-round pick.

To Danny Ainge, there was a simple logic to the Celtics' blockbuster trade that sent the No. 1 pick in the National Basketball Association draft to the 76ers for their third overall pick plus a future first-rounder.

The blockbuster trade between the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers for the first pick in the NBA Draft is now official.

While the pair of top picks getting swapped was the biggest news of the weekend for National Basketball Association fans, an under-the-radar story broke, claiming George informed the Indiana Pacers he would be leaving the team for free agency after the completion of next season with the hopes of signing on with his hometown Los Angeles Lakers.

General manager Bob Myers said Monday that Kerr would have time off as needed to find more options to better his long-term health, and Kerr said he would be traveling to do so. It has been years for the Sixers since they've been even remotely close to contention, but the wait might soon pay off as they appear poised to add Markelle Fultz to a team that has been loading up on high picks for a while.

"I think he's supertalented, superexplosive", said Cal guard Jabari Bird of Pac-12 rival Fultz following Monday's Sixers workout.

"We're getting the player we want".

Ball, expected to be selected No. 2 to the Los Angeles Lakers, wore an all-black suit - as did his father, LaVar, who sat with his family at a table near the stage. And then come the Celtics.

1 if this deal hadn't gone down.

Josh Jackson and Jayson Tatum both should be available at No. 3, assuming the Sixers draft Fultz and the Los Angeles Lakers select Lonzo Ball. "I would venture to say we're going to be sold out this year playing to full capacity every night".

"He's so young. I think he's a special talent".

So the way he looks at it, the deal is a win-win.

The future first-rounder will convey either next year or in 2019. The Celtics would take whichever one is more favorable.

Boston gets the No. 3 pick in Thursday's draft from Philadelphia, plus either a first-rounder in 2018 and 2019. "And we still feel that way", Ainge said in a conference call. We watched the same Finals that everybody did. When I played him, I thought he could do everything offensive.

Philadelphia will select first for the second straight year. It was agreed to in principle at that point, with the last holdup being the customary league approval on the terms.

Colin Ward-Henninger of CBS Sports also reported there is a chance that the Celtics will receive a 2021 first round pick. If the Lakers hold a pick between No. 2 and No. 5 next season, Boston now gets that one as well.

The Celtics will get an additional first-round pick in the 2018 or 2019 draft in exchange for moving down two spots in the first round this year.
