Di Maria fined £1.76m and sentenced to one year in prison

Di Maria fined £1.76m and sentenced to one year in prison”

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly no longer wants to leave the club after president Florentino Perez's public show of support.

Mourinho, who has won 25 trophies with clubs in Portugal, Italy, Spain and England, managed Real from 2010 and 2013, winning the Spanish league and the Super Cup in 2012 and the Copa del Rey in 2011.

In addition, they say he only declared 11.5 million euros of Spanish-related income from 2011 to 2014, while what he really earned during that time was close to 43 million euros.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos backed his player when queried over Ronaldo refusing to take questions on his club future.

"The situation with Real Madrid is a little tender, which is normal", Campos admitted to Telefoot.

Spanish outlet Diario Gol is reporting that the Red Devils remain keen on signing the 24-year-old this summer but will have to shell out a hefty transfer fee to convince Real Madrid to sell the forward.

There is a growing list of football stars being investigated and prosecuted in Spain over accusations of tax evasion.

All are accused of using a similar system, whereby their image rights were owned by companies registered in the British Virgin Islands or Panama, and which allegedly received money from intermediaries based in Ireland.

According to a court document seen by AFP, Di Maria will pay around two million euros to the Spanish authorities after pleading guilty to two counts of fraud committed in 2012 and 2013 when he was a Real Madrid player. It was not immediately possible to reach Di Maria's representatives for a comment.

Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi was given a 21-month sentence previous year, which he is unlikely to serve, for having defrauded the national purse of 4.1 million euros of undeclared image rights earnings. The two were given 21-month jail sentences but neither is expected to serve prison time since it was a first offense and the sentence was under two years. Barcelona's Lionel Messi, Neymar and Javier Mascherano have also had issues with the authorities in the past few years.
