GOP sen: 'We should not be voting' on healthcare this week”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has finally unwrapped his plan for dismantling President Barack Obama's health care law. Senate Republican leaders may rely on the deal-making former businessman to lean on conservative senators who are balking at the bill.

That's not sitting well with GOP Sen.

With Republicans in the Senate holding only a 52-48 seat edge, they can afford only two defections to get to a 50-50 tie, allowing Vice President Pence to then presumably break any logjam.

"If we roll that back at a time when Medicaid has been the largest benefit to getting these folks treatment, we're going to see the number of overdoses, not just in OH, but across the country, they're going to skyrocket".

Republican leadership is aiming to have a vote on the bill next week before senators leave Washington, DC for the Fourth of July recess.

He acknowledged that Republicans have long promised to repeal the ACA, but urged lawmakers to put aside partisan politics while working to address America's health care system. That message was at odds with Trump's Rose Garden celebration after the bill cleared the House, when he told lawmakers it was a "great plan". The measure resembles legislation the House approved last month that the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said would mean 23 million additional uninsured people within a decade and that recent polling shows is viewed favorably by only around 1 in 4 Americans.

Sens. Dean Heller of Nevada, facing a competitive 2018 re-election battle, Rob Portman of OH and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia expressed concerns about the bill's cuts to Medicaid and drug addiction efforts. Moderates are also wary of the legislation, which would make deep cuts to Medicaid and raise premiums for the poor, elderly, and sick, while benefiting people who are younger and wealthier.

Most health care advocates, physician organizations and hospitals have come out against this bill.

"This bill that's now in front of the United States Senate is not the answer", Heller, a moderate who is up for re-election in 2018, said at a news conference in Las Vegas.

Annie Clark, a spokeswoman for Sen.

"I have very serious concerns about the bill", Collins said in an interview with ABC's This Week. "Whether we have a hearing or not, this thing needs to be fully vetted", he continued.

"These cuts are blood money. Without medications, my daughter is going to die", Rodriguez said.

"It's going to be very hard to get me to a 'yes, '" Heller said Friday.

Sen. Ron JohnsonRon JohnsonSenate Republicans reluctant to rush vote on healthcare bill GOP sen: "We should not be voting" on healthcare this week GOP at decisive moment on Planned Parenthood MORE (R-Wis.) said Sunday the Senate should not be voting this coming week on its healthcare bill. This week he called for a health plan "with heart".

Giaimo focuses on health care policy. Discrimination based on pre-existing conditions could become the norm again. It would erase taxes on higher earners and the medical industry that helped Obama's law expand coverage by roughly 20 million Americans.

Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has a challenge on unifying his party to successfully repeal the Affordable Care Act.
