Government websites hacked with pro-ISIS rant

Government websites hacked with pro-ISIS rant”

A number of government websites in the USA state of OH, including that of Governor John Kasich, have been hacked to display a pro-IS message.

According to the New York Post, the same message also infiltrated government websites in Brookhaven, New York, on Long Island.

The Ohio governor's website wasn't loading on Sunday afternoon, and a cached version showed the message "hacked by Team System Dz".

In 2015, the Dayton City Paper was hacked by the same group.

Tom Hoyt, chief communications officer for Ohio's Department of Administrative Services, confirmed the hacking in OH happened at around 11 a.m. Sunday.

A spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction said the agency is working aggressively to clear the message from its website.

Howard County Councilman Calvin Ball said the county should evaluate its IT infrastructure for vulnerabilities to ensure such hacks aren't repeated. He hoped the websites would be up and running sometime Monday.

News 5 has reached out to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections for comment but have not yet heard back.

The hack is part of ongoing cyberterrorism that has impacted governments and corporations across the globe.

Kasich's staff said Sunday that they were aware of the hack and working to resolve the issue.

But others see cause for alarm. "Wake up freedom-loving Americans", he wrote.

In March 2015, the Wisconsin State Journal reported that the group claimed it hacked the Richland County Sheriff's Office's website and others by splattering pro-jihadi messages.

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel posted about the alleged hack on Sunday morning.
