Heat wave shatters Fraser Valley temperature records

Heat wave shatters Fraser Valley temperature records”

High temperatures have prompted a weather alert across southern B.C.

A special weather statement is in effect from Environment Canada as what's expected to be a brief heat wave hits the South Coast. Daily temperature records are expected to be broken over the weekend.

Temperatures will start to dip again on Monday due to an onshore flow of cool, marine air.

So before throwing all caution to the beach-side breeze, consider taking heed of some public health advice from the experts.

Summer is here, and it's bringing with it record temperatures.

People with seniors in their lives are also asked to check in on them regularly, to ensure they're handling the heat.

Vancouver Island will heat up this weekend and Environment Canada wants everyone to be prepared.

Environment Canada recommends drinking plenty of water throughout the day and staying in cool places.

And the SPCA is once again reminding people never to leave pets in a parked auto, where the heat can reach deadly levels in just minutes. "Temperatures can rise to 52 degrees Celsius within 20 minutes in an enclosed vehicle when the outside temperature is 34 degrees Celsius".
