I thought I was done, Rafael Nadal reveals his hidden thought

I thought I was done, Rafael Nadal reveals his hidden thought”

French Open 2017 champion Rafael Nadal announced on Wednesday that he will not be playing the Queen's club tournament next week as he was hoping to take some days off before the Spaniard begins his campaign in Wimbledon.

The Spaniard notched his memorable success on a second match point when three-time Grand Slam victor Wawrinka sent a backhand into the net. "I don't think it would be the right thing to do to see it as a revenge", said Nadal who withdrew before last year's third round at the French Open with a wrist injury.

Nadal started the second set as he had ended the first, sending Wawrinka running all over the baseline with a series of ferocious forehands and breaking early to establish a 3-0 lead. The ten-time French Open victor has a chance for another title in just three weeks, and while he may still have doubts, the tennis community has expectations of another success story. Nadal has reached a tour-leading seven finals so far this season, starting the season with final runs at the Australian Open, the Abierto Mexicano Telcel and at the Miami Open presented by Itau.

"He puts this doubt in your head when you play against him", said Wawrinka, who had been 3-0 in Grand Slam finals, including a victory over Nadal at the 2014 Australian Open. "We saw how he has been playing since the beginning of the season - fit, aggressive, his level has been incredible", said Wawrinka, who had lost to Nadal on the same court in the 2013 quarterfinals.

Nadal arrived at a Nike shop on Paris' famous Champs Elysees Avenue just after having posed with his trophy on a barge cruising the Seine River in the French capital, to the delight of a crowd of global fans. Nadal scored 27 winners in contrast to Wawrinka's 19.

"I didn't play my best tennis for sure, I was a little bit hesitant with my selection of shots".

Nadal has not had to wait as long as Real Madrid did for a 10th European title but, for a man who won nine titles in 10 years, two years without one was virtually an eternity.

Nadal said revenge for that defeat has never entered his thinking.

Rafael Nadal's win at Roland Garros extends his total record to 79 wins and two losses following his first victory in 2005.
