It's Anil Kumble's Personal Decision To Step Down, Says Sourav Ganguly

Virat Kohli had the final say in the captain-coach row between him and Anil Kumble. "We will follow the process while deciding on the next coach", he said, adding that the CAC was not aware whether the BCCI will invite more applications for the post in the changed scenario. "And we all respect him totally", the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain further added. He did not mention any particular instance which leads to the disagreement with Kohli. If somebody is a hard taskmaster and he has got you results like Anil Kumble has got over the a year ago, if any of the players are complaining, I feel those players are the ones who should be left out of the team. He has been given a one-year contract and he waited till the contract expired.

According to reports, Kumble, whose one-year tenure was scheduled to end at the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales, stayed back in England instead of travelling with the team for their next assignment in the West Indies. This set will start on Friday.

Kumble made a decision to stay back in London for the International Cricket Council's (ICC) "Annual Conference" as he is the chairman of the Cricket Committee while the Indian team boarded the flight to Barbados.

"Professionalism, discipline, commitment, honesty, complementary skills and diverse views are the key traits I bring to the table".

Kumble wrote in his letter that everyone wants their partner to be active.

"His achievements as a coach will be hard to replicate".

One of the main reasons for Kumble stepping down as the coach was the bitter relationship with Kohli.

"It is for the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to take a call on that", said Gavaskar.

Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly tried to sort out the differences between coach and captain, but they failed to solve the problem.

He didn't take any names but the reference to Indian cricket's latest drama was hard to miss as India's lone individual Olympic gold-medallist Abhinav Bindra revealed how he stuck to a coach he hated, for 20 years. The former India pacer knows domestic cricket well in India, but it is unlikely that it would count for much when applying for such an important position in world cricket.
