Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace gain 296bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine

Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace gain 296bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine”

The 2-litre, 4-cylinder turbo offers a power output of 296bhp and 295lb ft of torque.

The best performing Jaguar with the new 300PS petrol engine is the Jaguar XE, which can get to 62mph in 5.5 seconds and return official numbers of 41.5mpg and 157g/km.

Now while some may not be too pleased at the prospect of new fast Jaguar saloons without six- or eight-cylinder engines, these XEs and XFs do arrive at an interesting time. It already employs 1,400 people and is now being expanded to a £1bn, 2 million sq ft, facility.

In the Jaguar XF business saloon the new engine delivers 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds (0-60mph in 5.5 seconds). CO2 emissions are 163g/km and fuel economy up to 40mpg (7.2l/100km).

The engine's impact is felt most in the XE - the lightest and smallest vehicle of the trio.

In the F-Pace, 0-62mph takes 5.7 seconds.

In the smaller XE saloon, the 0-100km/h sprint takes only 5.5 seconds (0-60mph in 5.2) with all wheel drive, fuel economy is up to 41.5mpg (6.9l/100km) and Carbon dioxide emissions are 157g/km.

Nick Rogers, executive director for product engineering at JaguarLand Rover, said: "We continue to broaden the range of our Ingenium engine family, giving customers more choice than ever before". Using a twin-scroll turbo and ceramic ball bearings, Jaguar claims the engine "delivers exceptionally smooth acceleration. and outstanding responses".

The introduction of the powerful new engine is the latest in a series of enhancements to the XE, XF and F-PACE. The same unit recently made its debut in the Jaguar F-Type and it's now heading to the remainder of Jag's range, where it sits just underneath the V6-powered S models.

The XE and XF saloons can now both be specced with a gesture controlled boot lid, and are also available with Jaguar's Configurable Dynamics tech, allowing drivers to alter gearbox, throttle and steering settings.
